Integrated storage drawers are seamlessly built into the platform, providing discreet space-saving solutions. Whether you’re looking for a bespoke centerpiece or a durable storage solution, this bed is designed to last generations.

Designed to Defy Gravity

Some furniture is meant to blend in. This one, however, refuses to.

The Floating Walnut Bed anchors the room with quiet strength and a genuine sense of levitation — no brackets, no illusions, just engineering disguised as art. In fact, it was designed and built by Majesty Woodworks to embody timeless craftsmanship and restraint.

Built to Hover, Engineered to Last

How does it actually float?

This queen-size floating walnut bed rests on a fully recessed plinth, so the frame carries a sense of lightness that defies its structure. There are no brackets and no wall mounts—just clean geometry and hidden strength. Meanwhile, LED underglow (not shown in the photos) wraps the base in a soft, ambient wash, casting the entire piece in quiet elegance at night.

Structurally, three modular units make up this bed: a left and right drawer carcass, and a central foot cabinet. As a result, they interlock into a solid platform that doesn’t creak, flex, or shift.

Hidden Storage in Every Direction

Minimalism doesn’t mean compromise. In fact, this floating walnut bed features seven push-to-open drawers—six on the sides and one at the foot—all mounted on full-extension slides. Moreover, we made each drawer face from 5/8-inch solid walnut, hand-selected to stand out against the frame and reminiscent of a sunrise, with lighter sapwood tones rising toward the top.

What storage is built in?

Inside, the drawers are clean, crisp, and practical. In addition, walnut and maple drawers with hand-cut dovetails glide effortlessly and open with a gentle touch. A concealed under-mattress cavity adds even more hidden storage—ideal for seasonal blankets or anything you want tucked away. Furthermore, the lift-out panels include hand-cut openings for easy access. No hinges and no gimmicks—just clean solutions.

A Headboard That Commands Attention

The floating walnut bed headboard alone could carry this room. After all, we built it entirely from solid walnut, and it features book-matched center panels that mirror each other with near-symmetrical precision. At the same time, those panels lock into vertical posts using traditional drawbored mortise and tenon joinery. The art of drawboring involves drilling offset holes through the tenon and into the post. After that, we inserted solid maple dowels under tension. As a result, the joint pulls itself tighter as the dowels drive in. Not only does this method strengthen the connection, but it also creates a mechanical lock that holds over time. The technique takes more effort, but it rewards you with precision, strength, and classic style.

To keep the entire headboard square from top to bottom, we added a solid walnut stretcher at the base. This structural beam joins the two posts with exposed, beveled through-tenons—each one fully visible and chamfered by hand. These joints not only prevent racking but also bring rhythm and contrast to the lower half of the frame. The result is a headboard that remains grounded, balanced, and visually honest from every angle.

Finish and Materials Matter

For a piece this size, structural integrity is key. The exterior panels are walnut veneer over maple ply, chosen to prevent seasonal movement while maintaining a solid-wood feel. Meanwhile, we crafted the drawer faces, trim, and headboard all from solid walnut—hand-sanded, grain-matched, and finished in Osmo Polyx 3043. That finish is one I trust: matte, durable, and subtle enough to let the wood speak for itself.

You can learn more about that finish here: Osmo Polyx-Oil 3043.

The mattress itself rests inside a low-profile restraint system—custom millwork, mitered and flush-set—to keep everything in place without disrupting the lines. No visible lips, no slop, no room for drift.

This Floating Walnut Bed Will Not Be Recreated

This bed exists for one client—and one space. That’s the nature of bespoke design. Every joint, material choice, and proportion was made for a single vision. Even so, the craftsmanship behind it lives on. In fact, the same discipline, precision, and patience guide every new commission we take.

If you’re ready to create something that feels truly your own, we’ll build it—one decision, one detail, and one story at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions About This Floating Walnut Bed

This bed shares the clean geometry found in many modern designs, but unlike mass-produced platforms, every joint and proportion was engineered by hand for a specific space. As a result, the recessed plinth allows it to appear weightless while still carrying the solid integrity of traditional joinery. Furthermore, we hand-selected the walnut and matched from board to board to preserve natural rhythm and tone. In the end, the piece achieves what factory furniture can’t — a seamless blend of craftsmanship, structure, and atmosphere that feels grounded yet almost floating in the room.

We built each drawer from solid maple and walnut with hand-cut dovetails. Every drawer rides on full-extension, push-to-open slides. Additionally, we hand-fit each walnut face, selecting boards that stand out against the frame and echo the warmth of a sunrise through lighter sapwood tones at the top.

Flush lift-out panels conceal a deep storage cavity beneath the mattress. No hinges, no hardware — just clean geometry and easy access. Further, the cavity is ideal for storing seasonal linens, keepsakes, or anything you prefer out of sight.

The finish is as intentional as the joinery. Specifically, we use Osmo Polyx-Oil 3043, a matte hardwax oil that penetrates the wood instead of forming a surface film. Because of this, the walnut keeps its natural texture and depth rather than taking on the plastic sheen common with polyurethane. In addition, the blend of oils and waxes strengthens the surface from within, making it resistant to moisture, abrasion, and UV exposure. As a result, the bed ages gracefully—developing a quiet patina that deepens with time rather than wearing away. Finally, the finish can be renewed without sanding, so the piece can be maintained for decades with minimal effort.

Absolutely, because every commission begins with your space, your needs, and your priorities. Initially, we look at proportions, lighting, and surrounding materials to ensure the design harmonizes with your environment. From there, dimensions, wood species, and functional details are refined to match your vision. In addition, no two builds are ever identical—each one evolves through collaboration rather than duplication. As a result, every custom piece carries its own personality while reflecting the same precision and restraint that define Majesty Woodworks. After all, the goal is simple: create something that fits your life as naturally as it fits the room.
