This humidor collection was originally commissioned by the owner of Hairy Cow Brewing Company. He wanted something dark, refined, and meaningful—something that reflected not just his own taste, but the pride he had in gifting a custom piece to someone he valued.
I built every humidor in this collection from the darkest walnut or warm, select cherry. All feature hand-cut dovetail joinery, Spanish cedar interiors, and removable trays with custom dividers. I milled the brass hardware by hand, including the finger pulls, and installed quadrant hinges and analogue hygrometers to finish them off.
Although I made the first pair of humidors as near-mirror images, each build had a subtle difference — especially when it came to the final touch. I spent weeks prototyping options for a Boveda holder. Nothing felt personal enough. A standard solution wouldn’t do.
Then it hit me: the Hairy Cow logo.
I shaped the final Boveda holders in the silhouette of that logo, cut from Spanish cedar and finessed by hand. They were functional. But even more importantly is that they were meaningful.
Later, two more humidors were added to the Hairy Cow Collection. One in cherry. Another in walnut. The specs stayed the same, but the look and feel of each box told its own story. Even so, each humidor felt distinct thanks to subtle changes in grain, tone, and how the wood responded during the build.
There may even be a fifth humidor on the horizon—something different, something bold. But that’s a story for another day.
This project reminded me why I build humidors in the first place. Every decision—from the wood selection to the final polish—I made with intent. It wasn’t just about making something that looked good. It was about making something that meant something.
Whether you’re a brewer, collector, or someone looking to commission a piece that tells a story, this collection shows what’s possible when craftsmanship meets meaning.
Every humidor in this collection reflects the values behind it—craftsmanship, precision, and the pride of giving something truly personal. That’s why I build with purpose, not production. Because every build starts from scratch, I control every detail from start to finish. I make every decision count, from selecting the grain to applying the final polish.
As a result, no two pieces feel exactly the same. Even when the specs are identical, the outcome always carries its own soul. Throughout the process, I shape every build by hand to match both function and style.
If you’re ready to commission a humidor that tells your story, I’d be honored to create it. Check out our other custom handcrafted humidors for inspiration.
